417 Hz solfeggio frequency: mid tone for change and a fresh start, shown with its waveform

417 Hz is traditionally the tone of change: clearing what was and making room for what is next. In practice it is a bright-ish mid tone that our listeners use as a reset cue, at the start of a new routine, a new week or a new work block.

What 417 Hz is

417 Hz is the second of the original six solfeggio tones, a clear mid pitch just below G sharp 4. It is the first tone in the scale that reads as bright rather than deep, which changes how it is used. In Mindael it is generated at exactly 417 Hz.

What it is used for

The tradition pairs 417 Hz with change: undoing what was and clearing space for what comes next. Our listeners translate that into a cue. A cue is any sound you hear every time you start something, so that after a couple of weeks the sound itself starts the behaviour. 417 Hz under green noise at the beginning of a work block, or under a drone at the start of a morning sit, is the version we hear about most.

Used that way, the tone does not need to be long. Five minutes is plenty; what matters is that it is the same five minutes every time.

How to listen

Low, under green noise or a soft drone, for the first five to ten minutes of whatever you are starting. If you have earbuds, an alpha 10 Hz beat underneath suits a calm, awake start. Save the mix so it is identical each time; the consistency is the mechanism.

A sound that says: new block, new start.

The best use of 417 Hz is as a cue you hear every time you begin. Mindael lets you save it with green noise and an alpha beat as one mix and start it with a tap, so the reset is the same every morning. Download it and make tomorrow the first one.

Frequently asked questions

What is 417 Hz used for?

In the solfeggio tradition, undoing situations and facilitating change. In practice people use it as a marker: the sound that starts a new routine or clears the air between two tasks.

What does 417 Hz sound like?

A clear mid tone just below the G sharp above middle C. Brighter than 396 Hz, still soft enough to sit under green noise or a drone.

When should I play 417 Hz?

Mornings and transitions. Five minutes with 417 Hz under green noise before a work block is a habit several of our listeners describe; the point is the cue, not the length.
